Seashell wreaths
I am a big believer that you do not need to live near the sea to have lovely seashells on your front door. Just as southerners put snowflakes and winter doormats during wintertime, I think seashells can be summery no matter where in the country (or the world) you live.

What is the best size wreath for the front door?
The best size wreath for your front door can actually vary for different people. The reason for this is that the best size actually depends on the size of your door.
According to Ballard Designs, for a standard 36-inch door, the best size wreath you can get is 24 inches. They have a great diagram for wreath-hanging that shows the best size and exactly where to hang it on your door.
For oversized doors, they recommend the 36 inch wreaths, but for everything else 24 inches is recommended.
However, don’t feel like you always have to go by the rules. If an oversized wreath looks great on your door- go for it!
When should I put up my summer wreath?
The time to put up your summer wreath is fortunately completely up to you!
There are a few things to consider though before deciding when to put your wreath up..
1. Weather
What is the weather like where you live? I used to live in southern North Carolina by the beach, so we were putting up summer-like wreaths by spring normally. However, if you’re in New England, you may get some strange stares if your porch is shimmering summer when the snow is just melting. More than anything, I believe weather in your area may be the strongest factor in the decision making.
2. Neighbors
Another thing you may consider depending on where you live is your neighbors. You do not always have to keep this in mind, but it is something to think about. If everyone around you still has their Easter decorations up for their front door, is it time for summer yet?
3. Family
This may seem like a simple one, but it’s anything but. If your kids still live with you, is summer a favorite season? If it is, a summertime wreath may bring the “summer vibes” earlier and brighten up family time. If it’s you and a spouse, does he/she love summer? Make sure to grab family input before diving into summertime.

What color should my summer wreath be?
You have many options for choosing colors for those front door summer wreaths.
One thing to keep in mind when you make your decision is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2021. The Pantone color of the year always sets the mood for what may unfold in the year in both moods and trends.
“Emboldening the spirit, the pairing of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 highlights our innate need to be seen, to be visible, to be recognized, to have our voices heard. A combination of color whose ties to insight, innovation and intuition, and respect for wisdom, experience, and intelligence inspires regeneration, pressing us forward toward new ways of thinking and concepts.”

What can I hang on my door besides a wreath?
Security Devices
I know this isn’t a decoration, but it never hurts to have front door security devices. You never know when you may need them, so we found the best security bars for doors here.
In all honesty, I used to think security things for the front door were a bit silly. I heard about the new up-and-coming security doorbells where you could see who was at the door, but I honestly just loved my old-fashioned doorbells.
And then I had kids.
Three of them, all 5 and under. In between my two sweet boys is a spunky daughter with a louder-than-life personality. That includes wild adventures, such as her running to the door whenever she sees it open to she can go to the “great outdoors”. However, our “great outdoors” is near a busy street. Suddenly, for us, security devices was not about people getting in as much as it was about our adventurous two-year-old getting out. We immediately sought out all of the child proof front door items we could find.
Decor
Sometimes when I go to someone’s front door, I’m captivated by the front door curtains I see on each side. Mine are bland and falling apart, so I cannot wait to redo them.
If you really want to add some style, you could make your front door curtains match your front door summer wreath!
Another fun way to add to your summer wreath is door mats. Finding either funny doormats, monogrammed doormats, or even simple summer mats will bring new elements to your front door!

I am obsessed with these orange and yellow flowers on this summer wreath from @clivenichols. I don’t know about you, but I cannot look at this summer wreath without being happy. Try to look at this and frown. It may not be on a front door in this picture, but if you put it on yours imagine how many people it could make cheery!
When I think of summer, I think of beautiful greenery everywhere possible. This summer wreath is showing exactly that. The simplicity combined with elegance is hard to beat.
Another great idea for your front door is to have summer colors with one that “pops” out. Having these blues and greens with the “pop” of yellow will surely make your front door stand out and scream “summer”.
